CAP Job Club

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national charity aimed at helping people become debt free and escape from poverty. CAP recently merged with the charity Community Money Advice (CMA) to form the CAP Group to expand their reach and better support the most vulnerable in society.  CAP expanded from the debt counselling to include training in: Life Skills, Job Clubs and Money Coaching.  Churches in the Teesside area offer these services.

At New Life Church Teesside, we started our CAP Centre in 2025 and run a Job Club three times per year, in the form of the 8-week ‘Steps to Employment’ training course. 

This offers support, encouragement and helps you step confidently into employment or to get you closer to the job market through voluntary and training opportunities. This service is free and is open to anybody, regardless of their faith, and is aimed at people with a good understanding of English language (written and spoken). Please note that transport is not refunded and no childcare is available.

Each week the session runs from 10.00 until approximately12.00 on a Wednesday, and the course topics are: 

Week 1: Finding your Motivation

Week 2: Overcoming Obstacles

Week 3: Discovering your Strengths

Week 4: Getting to know Employers

Week 5: Writing CVs and Applications Pt 1

Week 6: Writing CVs and Applications Pt 2

Week 7: Succeeding in Interviews 

Week 8: Getting Ready for Work

The course uses videos, discussions, and a workbook (that is free for members to keep) covering the following topics: opportunities, training and educational courses or employment.
